Measuring your space so delivery goes smoothly

The doorway, hallway and opening measurements to take before your appliance arrives.

Measure the appliance and the whole path

The number-one cause of a failed delivery is a doorway, not the room. Measure the width of every doorway, hallway, stairwell and turn the appliance must pass through — not just the final opening. Write down the appliance’s width, height and depth from the product page, then compare against your narrowest point. Our free fit checker tool does the math for you in seconds.

Leave the right clearance

Give at least one inch on each side of the appliance to move it through an opening safely, and account for handles and hinges that stick out (doors can often be removed temporarily). For a built-in cabinet cutout, the appliance should be slightly smaller than the opening so it slides in cleanly with room for airflow. Choosing a refrigerator? Our how to choose a refrigerator guide covers counter-depth vs standard-depth sizing in detail.

Plan the delivery day

Clear the path, protect floors, and confirm someone 18+ will be home. We deliver from our Woodbridge, VA warehouse across Dale City, Manassas, Springfield, Alexandria and Washington, DC — see the full service area and delivery details. Measurements looking tight? Send us your numbers and we will confirm the fit before you buy.

Then shop with confidence

With your measurements in hand, browse all in-stock appliances or jump to ranges, washers, dryers and freezers. New to scratch and dent? Start with the complete buying guide and check warranty coverage and this week’s deals.

The measurements that matter most

Quick checklist: front entry and interior doorways (with trim), the tightest hallway turn, stair width and landing, and the final opening or cabinet cutout. For refrigerators, also allow about an inch at the top and back for airflow; for a washer or dryer, leave room for hoses and venting behind the unit. When in doubt, measure twice — it is the cheapest insurance in the whole process.
